SEL/Building Community Focus: Family Team Activities
As part of our Social Emotional Learning goal, the focus has been building a sense of community and belonging. An important part of building community is to establish connections and relationships throughout our school, not only within individual classrooms. We have regular Family Team meetings and activities whereby students from grades Kindergarten through Seven work within assigned teams, and with staff who may or may not be their classroom teacher. The purpose behind Family Teams is also to foster leadership within our students as our older intermediate students work to support their younger teammates in various engaging activities. This included a Winter Holiday schoolwide Bingo activity prior to the Winter Break, as well as a Get to Know the Blundell Staff Kahoot. Not only are these activities fun, but they build leadership capacity within our students, and relationships across our school community.
